The passenger traffic at Platov international airport (part of the Airports of Regions holding) on direct interregional flights bypassing Moscow grew by 15.7% in H1 2019 year-on-year to 356,700 passengers. The given segment is set to grow further.
Sochi is an undisputed leader among the cities in terms of demand for direct flights among the residents of Rostov, apart from Moscow and St. Petersburg, followed by Simferopol and Yekaterinburg, by Makhachkala, Nizhny Novgorod, Ufa, Samara, Kazan, Grozny and Novosibirsk – in a descending order.
It is also important to note that a number of new routes were opened from Platov airport to cities of Russia, which were not included in the rating, but always rouse the interest of passengers. These are flights from Rostov-on-Don to Kaliningrad with an intermediate landing in Kaluga as well as direct flights to Astrakhan and Vladikavkaz.
The development of interregional air services is the result of joint systemic effort of Azimuth Airlines, Platov Airport and regional authorities towards the fulfillment of the national agenda, formulated by the Russian President and enshrined in Decree No. 204 dated 07 May 2018 “On the National Goals and Strategic Objectives of Russia’s Development till 2024.” It is stated in the Decree that the network of interregional regular passenger air routes bypassing Moscow must be expanded to cover up to 50% of the total number of regular domestic flights.
