Platov Becomes First Russian Airport to Earn 5 Stars from Skytrax

The Platov International Airport (member of the Airports of Regions Holding) earned the five-star rating according to findings of an audit completed by experts of the reputed Skytrax international rating agency (based in the United Kingdom). The Russian airport was heralded with such a high ranking for the first time throughout the rating existence from 1989.

The certificate awarding ceremony of the 5-Star Regional Airport rating will be held on 27 March at the Passenger Terminal Expo 2019 in London.

5 stars of Skytrax are regarded as the most prestigious international award for airports and airlines in the sphere of quality assessment of passenger servicing. Stars are awarded according to findings of the expert audit of services, wh ere Skytrax specialists, assuming the role of an ordinary passenger, undergo inspection, passport check, and attend cafes and stores located in the airport. Particular attention is paid to performance of the airport personnel, the size of queues at check-in counters, the luggage release rate, opportunities of Internet connection and cleanness in the passenger terminal.

Skytrax experts visited Platov in January and prepared a report according to results of activities that the new airport of Rostov-on-Don deserves the highest rating score.

It is worth to note that Skytrax experts proceed from the highest standards in the course of assessment and just nine airports of the globe have earned the highest five-star rating so far. The Platov International Airport has become the tenth in this list.

Just 48 airports on the planet have the 4-star rating from Skytrax, which is also regarded as a prestigious one. Only three airports among them are located in Russia, including the Koltsovo International Airport (Ekaterinburg) and the Kurumoch International Airport (Samara), also affiliated with the Airports of Regions Holding.

– Not a single airport has earned the five-star rating in Russia before. “The airport of Rostov-on-Don stands now shoulder-to-shoulder with airports of Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, and Munich,” General Director of the Airports of Regions MC Evgenii Chudnovskii says. “However, the highest possible assessment by Skytrax experts is also a challenge of certain kind: we must maintain the high hurdle of service quality at the preset level in all airports of the Holding. Still, the most important is not to forget that satisfaction of passengers is the main credit for our operations,” he noted.

To recap, the Platov International Airport, the first international airport built from scratch in modern Russia with million-plus passengers serviced, was commissioned in December 2017. The airport design catered for all the modern requirements and international standards of passenger service and aircraft ground service. Passenger traffic of Platov was 3.2 million people as of 2018 year-end. The new airport of Rostov-on-Don earned two awards earlier according to results of 2018: the national award Air Gates of Russia in nominations of the Best Airport in Category from 2 Million to 4 Million Passengers per Year and the Best Innovative Project of the Year.
