Platov Airport Provides Services for 1.5m Passengers during 9 Months of 2020

Platov international airport has reviewed the performance results for 9 months of 2020. The traffic at Platov stood at 1m496thou people including 1m207thou passengers who received services on domestic routes. The traffic reduction was 36.6% year-on-year, the main reason being the restrictions introduced for the purpose of preventing the spread of coronavirus infection.

Starting in August we saw the traffic growth at inland flights on the routes bypassing Moscow and in September we also saw burgeoning traffic on international routes. Yet this positive trend is unable to radically change the performance results for 9 months.

Despite the difficult situation in the aviation industry as a whole, new flights opened at Platov in 2020. The backbone carrier Azimuth Airlines inaugurated two new routes – to Yekaterinburg and to Saratov, Azimuth being the only carrier on the Saratov route. Talking about inland destinations, flights to Yekaterinburg were most popular, apart from Moscow and Saint-Petersburg. The Urals capital was even ahead of resort destinations, such as Simferopol and Sochi, in the rating, the two latter destinations ranking second and third. The top five is closed by Samara and Ufa.

Starting in August 2020, Platov airport has been a transit hub for the airlines performing international flights from Russian regions to Turkish resort destinations, most popular being Antalya. From the turn of the year till September 30 some 178,800 people received services on the flights to this city, down 8.5% year-on-year.

Overall regular and charter flights to 39 destinations were operated from Platov airport, including to 15 international destinations. Platov’s backbone airline Azimuth transported more people than other airlines – 371,800 travelers, followed by Aeroflot, by AZUR Air, by S7. AZUR Air for the first time hit the list of Platov’s leading carriers as a result of performing the “Turkish programme”.
