Platov International Airport is the first federal airport in the modern history of Russia which was built from ground-up. The project has a capacity of over a million passengers per year. The airport started operation in December 2017. The airport was called in honour of Matvei Platov, a famous Russian general commanding the Don Cossacks in the Patriotic War of 1812.
